About Falcon...
Falcon is owned by Ed (42 PH Macs)and John Bayer (36 PH Macs) and brother in law Jim Barnes. All 4 Bayer children are involved. Mary Allen, the main trimmer, is Ed and John's sister and their other sister, Linda Barnes, is the wife of Jim Barnes, a co-owner and active participant. They dedicate this and all future races to their Father Edwin A. Bayer Jr. who passed away three years ago at the age of 85. Ed was a proud Old Goat who taught his entire family to race and has been an inspiration to all!
There is also another family tradition on the crew - brothers Rich and Ron Rossio (25 PH Macs) are racing together on the boat and who together have over 40 Bayview Mac's to their credit.
Falcon was the 2005 and 2006 J-35 North American Champion and finished 3rd and in the 2nd and 2nd the last three NA's behind our spirited rival Mr. Bill's Wild Ride from local NSSC who has one the last three J-35 NAs. Falcon's experienced crew has over 240 Bayview Mac Races between them. This race will mark Ed Bayer's 43rd Mac, John Bayer's 35th, Mike Welch's 28th and Ron Rossio's 26th! Several other crew are knocking on the Old Goat door with over 20 macs completed. Falcon is proud to represent the Detroit Yacht Club.
Falcon won her class two years ago and was 2nd or 3rd in class for 7 of the last 10 races under the current ownership. The crew will work hard to get back on top this year in the highly competitive J-35/T-35 One Design class! We will be competing in this year's race against many of the best sailed J-35's in North America, including Mr. Bill's Wild Ride, the current North American Champion.
