A panel of Detroit River experts moderated by Com. Sandi Svoboda featuring: Raj Bejankiwar, Physical Scientist, Great Lakes Regional Office of the International Joint Commission; Jennifer Boehme, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Observing System (weather and other data on buoys); Operations Petty Officer Daniel DiLorenzo from USCG Station Belle Isle, Captain Scott Reynolds, Detroit Fire Department and Kathy Johnson, Great Lakes Now and Sturgeon for Tomorrow.
February 22nd, 2024 - US Sailing Offshore Sailing Roadshow
Join US Sailing’s Offshore team of Jim Teeters, Chris Tutmark, and Sydney Hough as they travel to various locations to meet with sailors and race organizers for the Offshore Road Show! Stops on the Roadshow are an opportunity to have any questions related to offshore sailing and handicapping answered.
Each stop will include an informative Q&A session and continue with short presentations on any of the following topics: Services and Roles of the Offshore Office, Steps to obtain a Measurement Rule Handicap (ORC or ORR), Offshore Boat Measurement 101, Understanding the VPP (Velocity Prediction Programs), How to read a rating certificate, Scoring Methods, and much more!

February 29th, 2024 - Ideas to Steal: What we heard at the US Sailing National Sailing Programs Symposium
The National Sailing Programs Symposium is the premier event for sailing education in the country, bringing together yacht club leadership, program directors, instructors, volunteers and industry representatives. Rear Commodore Sandi Svoboda is attending the February 2024 event and will share what she learned about best practices for running, maintaining, and improving sailing programs. Whether you're a club flag officer, committee chair, race committee volunteer, or just looking to get more involved, this workshop will help you help sailing in Detroit and have (even more) fun with it all.
March 7th, 2024 - What's with Water Levels?: The science for the 2024 predictions
with Drew Gronewold, University of Michigan associate professor, ecosystem science and management.
Dr. Gronewold is considered a leader in Great Lakes hydrological modeling, and he returns to Bayview to share the latest researc toward what to expect from lake and river levels in the coming years. Got questions about the science of our Lakes? Come ask the professor.
